Gameplay
Armchair Commander is a turn-based strategy game set between World War II and the Cold War. In this game, you can command armies and navies from over 100 different factions, fighting on both land and water. Uniquely, the game contains a map editor and a vast community of players that make their own scenarios: from WWI to modern war, there are tens of thousands of maps available to download. If you have a friend, you can also host multiplayer games with them online.
Campaign
There are 35 campaign missions, with more to come, that chronologically begin from the Spanish Civil War and extend beyond the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. They are split into four categories: for World War II, there are currently Soviet and German storylines (Pacific missions will be added in the future), and for the Cold War there are NATO and WP (Warsaw Pact) storylines. Battles range from land to sea and air, and players fight using a variety of troops ranging from light tanks in 1939 to nuclear-tipped missile launchers in 1962.
Conquest
Unlike the campaign, conquest maps allow the player to choose any nation to play, and win by defeating all enemies on the continent (Europe or Asia) with the help of other allies. Reward depends on the strength of the nation played, as it is a lot easier to win using the Soviet Union compared to, for example, Poland. There are currently five conquest maps, of which three are of WWII Europe and two are of WWII Asia, with Cold War maps coming soon.
Map Editor
All campaign levels are created using the same in-game editor everyone has access to. This means there is an infinite number of possibilities when it comes to making maps: everything found in the campaign can be replicated here. In the community, there are professional mappers that make much better levels than myself, and a lot of newer missions take inspiration from their work.
Community Maps
There are thousands of active members that create maps for everyone to enjoy every day. If you're bored, you can always come here and see what's new, which may include anything from historical battles to fictional scenarios to contemporary wars. Using the map editor, anyone is free to make as many maps as they want, and costs close to nothing to upload (a 20 coins fee is imposed to prevent malicious spamming which may crash the server). I feature good maps in the "featured" category, which helps players get their work appreciated by others.
