Gameplay
Retro Combat is a first-person shooter I started back in 2018 that's been updated multiple times until late 2020 (going through three completely different versions). It features multiplayer, drivable tanks and airplanes, customizable weapons, customizable controls, and training mode with AI. It was a shower idea that was the response to my awkward experience playing the mobile EA game Modern Combat, and I think I've made something that feels better in general and can satisfy my needs to host a custom mobile FPS game with a few friends.
Multiplayer
At peak, there were up to 30 concurrently online in Asia, although since the game's multiplayer removal from China (per demand by the government) there have been drastically less users
|
Team deathmatches last 15 minutes each and teams with the most score win, though it is mainly there to restart games every once in a while
|
Although multiplayer is buggy and hasn't been active since 2021, Asian servers are still maintained and you can still play with friends on it. Renovations are planned but I'm postponing it due to priority being on other games.
Singleplayer
Bots can drive tanks too! It takes five magazines of ammo to take one down, so your best bet is to use another tank. Tanks respawn immediately near spawnpoints.
|
You can play with up to 20 bots! They all aim very accurately but you can lower their difficulty. Fighting with bots gives experience that can be used to unlock weapons and level up to get free coins.
|
This is the unique part of this game: you can load up offline matches with bots anytime you want. A big part of what inspired this game was Ravenfield, and this is in some ways the mobile version of that singleplayer experience.
Custom Controls & Armory
Inspired by PUBG Mobile's custom controls, I made a simplified version where buttons can be dragged around and customized to suit your preferences. In the armory, you can choose between dozens of different weapons (ranging from assault rifles, sniper rifles, submachineguns, and shotguns) and attachments (red dot, silencer, extended mag, and acog scopes can be attached to certain weapons).
Old Versions
Old versions of the game are not on any stores, but the source code can be found on Github in the Development page.
One of the prototypes from early 2018. This was when I barely knew anything about 3D game design in middle school...

Honestly, the terrain here was too good for the models I could make, and it was really hard to run on mobile. What was more problematic, though, was that it took ages to compile on my old MacBook.
